Brand Building To Drive Growth

[This is an extract from an article originally published online on SyncNI.com on Friday 18th November 2011]

Following the announcement on the 16th November that the Bank of England is slashing its growth forecasts for 2012, and with many organisations and consumers set to reign in unnecessary spending as a result, just how can businesses remain competitive and stay ahead of their game amidst yet more doom and gloom?

Terror on the Table

Take a look at the spooky video we did for Top Fruit’s Halloween promotion on Facebook, starring our very own Conor O’Neill as Dr Pumpkinstein! The video was created to promote the launch of Top Fruit’s pumpkin carving competition and to direct people to the Facebook page.

Pierce Communications Lifts 3 at IDI Awards

Last night was a good night for the team at Pierce Communications. We picked up three Highly Commended Awards at the IDI (Institute of Designers Ireland) Annual Awards Ceremony. The prestigious event, held at the Sugar Club in Dublin, hosted the best in Visual Communications in Ireland and their work throughout the past 12 months. We were delighted to pick up these achievements as this was our first year entering the awards.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our clients for being able to craft these projects for them. The categories / projects we got highly commended in are:

1.  Corporate/Brand ID  Title: From Belfast To Narnia

2.  Corporate/Brand ID  Title: A Space Apart

3.  Website Design Title: Claire Muckian

The Nut Who Came in From the Cold

Check out the first video we did for Top Fruit, under the Top Productions banner that we created for them. Follow Almond Schwarzenut as he journeys across the perils of the kitchen on his way back to the nut bowl. This video was used as Top Fruit’s first Halloween competition and went viral a few days after it was launched, giving a great boost to their Facebook presence.

Institute of Designers in Ireland – 2011 Finalist!

Another great end to a busy week in the studio. We heard today that we are finalists in 2 categories for the 2011 IDI Design Awards. We made it to the finals with 2 different pieces of work for the Visual Communications category, (a really lovely brand identity for upcoming local sculptor, Claire Muckian,  and another brand identity for  a feature article entitled “From Belfast to Narnia”), as well as being finalists for another piece for work in the Multimedia Design category (a website for Claire Muckian).  Add that to being finalists in both the CIM  Ireland Marketing Excellence Awards and the UK Marketing Design Awards this year, and we think that’s not a bad result!

Water for Life Brand Development

Following a visit to Uganda last year to experience the extreme poverty people face daily, Richard Moore, Director at Linden Foods, encouraged other local businessmen in Northern Ireland to embark on a unique “Water for Life” challenge to raise much needed funds for the aid effort in East Africa.

Awards Finalists!

by

We got some good news on Friday – we heard we are finalists in not 1, but 2 different industry awards for our work. In the Northern Ireland CIM Marketing Excellence Awards 2011, work carried out for 2 different clients is up for nomination in a total of 3 separate categories.

At a national level we are also up for nomination in a category for the UK’s 2011 Marketing Design Awards.

As if that wasn’t good enough, recent hard work to redesign our new stationery has paid off, as it’s to be showcased and published in a French book called the Design and Design Book of the Year Volume Four, which will be published at the end of this year.

All in all – it was a nice way to end the week!

Wireframing – the fine line between design and development

by

The process of wireframing is one that brings up much debate in the web design and development community. Whilst they are a vital tool within some projects, they can also be seen to hinder the functional aspects of modern web layouts – it can be difficult to show functioning aspects of websites on a piece of paper.

The 2011 SxSW Experience

by

Well, I made it there and back…six flights, eight airports, 750 workshops and talks, and at least 20 shuttles later, I’ve had the full-blown SXSWi (that’s South x South West Interactive to me and you) experience.

This huge festival, which attracts over 35,000 visitors from around the world, is held every March in Austin, Texas. With humble beginnings as a low-key music festival in 1987, it now comprises three separate events for Technology (Interactive), Film and Music.
